DoulaCare Ireland are excited to bring this course to help doulas and birth workers grow in confidence & skills for supporting parents. This will be an interactive course based on adult learning styles, with lots of group discussion and trouble shooting. We will cover breastfeeding, bottle feeding and combination feeding.

  • When breastfeeding isn’t going well / Nipple pain

  • How to tell if baby is extracting milk

  • Signs baby is getting enough milk

  • Key phrases to help parents grow in confidence

  • The importance of language

  • Your scope of practice

  • When to refer to an IBCLC or Health Care Professional

  • Safe formula preparation

  • Safe storage and heating of expressed breast milk

  • Bottle feeding practice

  • Paced bottle feeding

Workshop Facilitator: Jen Crawford

(Co-Owner of DoulaCare Ireland)

Jen is a certified Birth & Postpartum Doula and is one of Ireland's most respected Postpartum Doulas. She was the first EVER certified Postpartum Doula in Ireland. Jen has boundless experience supporting families during their birth & postpartum experience. Jen specialises with the care of preterm and sick babies and brings this area of expertise to our trainings. Jen has supported families from all different backgrounds, with many different parenting choices.

Jen is also a Cuidiú Antenatal Ireland Educator and Breastfeeding Counsellor.

Jen was the Breastfeeding Coordinator for a national charity Irish Premature Babies. for many years. This gave her the opportunity to support families through many different situations.

Jen has run many workshops nationwide for health care professionals and parents. She was also extremely proud to be co-author of the only HSE booklet available for breastfeeding preterm and sick babies.

You do not need to join DoulaCare Ireland Doula Agency in order to take this training (you can work as an independent doula with our agreed level of mentorship and support). Taking our training does not guarantee you a position in our agency. We have a strict application process and, therefore, we only choose those who are the right fit for our team.
